NO.. a big resounding NO... no doubt marriage is an institution but please remember NOT everybody is cut out for that institution...and NOT everybody is willing to enter that institution but is pushed in forcefully due to societal pressure..
There if you ask me marriage is certainly not NECESSARY ... it can be considered ONE of the many options of living that are available to us.

It is not know whether you mean that two persons should go through the nuptial ceremony or they should join in union or not? If the two have decided to be joined in alliance then the ceremony is important. It helps to build a bond stronger between the two. Then marriage is necessary for propagation of better progeny in this world. It provides them the security in the society.

Much water has flown under the bridge since the institution of marriage. Whereas in the olden days the support system for its success was in place, today it is a different story. Apart from the support system those days society ruled the roost. Not any more.
Today individuals dare to think for themselves and weigh the pros and cons vis-a-vis their own need for marriage where even parents are not consulted. . Added to this is the populaton explosion which frightens today's generation. Some even go to the extent of saying that the kind of world that exists today is not fit for children to grow.
Therefore there is one part that advocates marriage and this category belongs to the old school of thought where they dare not to think for themselves but just follow what has been considered 'the thing to do' and there is the other part as outlined above.
But it will soon be an individual's choice and not what the society thinks if it is necessary or not.

Very difficult to answer this question in yes or no as it all depends upon the mental make up of an individual.human beings are social animals and naturally they need social bonding through nears and dears, friends, parents and ofcourse some one special with whom he/she can share every thing and can take solace that there is some one to understand, love and take care of her/him without reservations and that relationship is called husband-wife relationship.Life is long and up and downs many...and thus we all need a constant companion who can share our griefs, sadness, happiness and can enjoy with us every moment of life, there by making life worth living.Apart from that we need committed person for our biological, physical and day to day need and hence Marriage...the institution comes into focus. If we wish to lead a balanced life then MARRIAGE is must without any doubt.
