MERA NAAM JOKER very clearly froms a boundry between RKs career and split it into to two halves . The pre MNJ films shows the real RK . It was his ability to built a great team that enabled him to deliver good. Post MNJ his real team is lost and he has to play with a B team. Although his B team also consisted of some very talented ppl Like L-P, but overall they failed to deliver the Charisma and the magic , the original team delivered.
Raj Kapoor himself once said.Mai motio(pearls) ko chun chun kar mala banata hoon aur apke samne pesh karta hoon, asli chamak to en motio ki hai.
Once the RKs pearls(S-J, Shailendra, Mukesh) were gone the mala was never the same.
Except for BOBBY none of the post MNJ films r on my list.
Its not that RKs creativity decreased with times( he shows glimps of real RK in Later films too) but the overall impact which cud cross borders was missing.
The border line movie MERA NAAM JOKER itself becomes the carrer graph of RK. Look at the 3 parts of MNJ ...more

First part is better for him because first part have given him name and fame and established him as a brilliant actor and director and second part is best for him as business and as a producer with a tag of Great Showman.

For Me I consider the later as it had fetched new heroines in the industry and started the new era in glamour.

In my opinion the first part was much better in terms of quality or art.The story was good, the lyrics and music were excellent and the films conveyed some message. The films like awara and Mera naam Joker crossed the boundaries of our country and people all over the world became admiresrs. The latter part though commercially may have been more successful and of course popular with the masses but it was only the commercial suceess which Raj kapoor enjoyed with these films. There was nothing great about these films in terms of art. ( Though Raj Kapoor being a talented director did create some art whwrever possible in these films also) I personally love and admire his films of the first part only. The music was one of the very strong features of these films. The team of Shailendra/Hasrat Jaipuri, lata, Mukesh, Mohd.Rafi and Shanker Jaikishan created wonders which are still embedded in the memory of every music lover and really enjoyed by the old and young generation both.
