Most other states have an excess of local manpower that they would like to readily export to avoid finding jobs for them in their own states, bar a few. Bombay... sorry Mumbai has been built and nurtured (whichever way you look at it) by these immigrants who have made what it is.
The present ruckus is mostly about the immigrants to Mumbai, not necessarily anywhere else, although effects are being felt in other cities like Poona, Nasik and Nagpur too. All in all, all these regions put together represent only 5% of the whole state. Why cant Bal, Raj and others think in terms of developing the other 95% of the areas for their beloved Manas alone with the money that they collect from the tax paid by the immigrants on each and every item they purchase in Mumbai? Mumbai accounts for over 25% of the TOTAL IT received by the union government, and a far greater proportion would apply to local taxes like ST, Excise etc etc garnered by the State Govt by that yardstick.
It is just that Mumbai h ...more

Its the pitty selfish mind of the so called Marathi Manoos brigade who thinks that all things in Maharashtra are Marathi and vice versa. The miss the fact that Maharashtra has beniffeted oddles from being a part of the diversity of India. History has shown clearly that its the cosmopolitan diversity and open culture of Maharashtra and particularly Mumbai which has taken Maharashtra to the number one slot.

Well GM - After long time, I am seeing a meaningful question. My take on this issue is as follows.
1. The issue here is not "Maharashtra", but Mumbai.
2. Why Mumbai?
3. Because it has money.
4. In plain and simple words - It's all about Money.
5. In fact majority of Marathi people rejected the idea of outsiders stealing their jobs, because the fact is that non-Maharashtrians are not growing at the expense of Maharashtrians. They are simply growing in a system, which allows growth or survival to individuals conforming to a system. The people surviving and thriving in that system are not Maharashtrians, nor Biharis, nor UPites, nor Mangaloreans. They are simply individuals with certain personality traits that allows survival, sustenance and growth with those traits.
6. There are cases of success and failures for Maharashtrians and Non-Maharashtrians all across Maharashtra. It's wrong to form any opinion about any community. Dawood Ibrahim and Arun Gawli are not from Bihar and UP as ...more

I would qualify this statement a little more by saying, in no other State has this concept of 'manus' taken such monstrous, divisive proportions as it has in Maharashtra, where it is cleverly projected as a political issue for the welfare & protection of the locals but nothing more than a fight for their own survival & relevance in a society that is marching with the times but bigots in such setups want to pull that advance back not understanding the peril which their actions would bring forth. Such set ups have shown their ugly head time and again even in a place like Bangalore where the issue of language was given more prominence than the issue of localites as such and but could never snowball into an issue of moumental proportions for the sheer absurdity of its irrelevance due to the global village concept where the survival of the city itself is dependent on the moolah that it gets from abraod. And some strong personalities were able to stand up and speak against it, thus drowning ...more

No one bothers about the poor Maharashtrians.
Almost all leaders are corrupt and some of them spread hatred in the hearts of innocent Marathi people.
They do that to fill their vote banks and not for the people

Hey its news to me ! I am a Marathi person born in Mumbai so are my ancestors but we hardly have any property, where as all the outsiders have lots of property, quarter of which is attributed to their hard work and the rest to their cunningness and corrupt ways. You may not be aware but in Mumbai people come from outside states, stay in shanties(zopadpattis) and within a few years they are eligible for a flat under the Slum Rehabilitation Schemes. Immediately these people rent out that flat and build another shanty and they go on increasing their property and what do the locals do, they bother for their name and feel ahamed to do such things and remain poor. My sister-in law used to stay in a one room kitchen flat(210 sq.ft builtup area) in a SRA building for the past one year for which she used to pay Rs4500/- per month that too in Thana. This month she had to vacate her flat because the owner sold it and now she is paying Rs 5000/- rent per month to another outsider. Actually its th ...more
