Check the list of OBCs approved by the Government of India. OBCs change from state to state. Centain community which is OBC in one state may not be OBC in another. Besides this, the benefits of OBC reservations are given only those who do not belong to the creamy layer in those communities.

The Central Government of India classifies some of its citizens based on their social and economic condition as Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Class (OBC). The OBC list presented by the commission is dynamic (castes and communities can be added or removed) and will change from time to time depending on social, educational and economic factors. For example, the OBCs are entitled to 27% reservations in public sector employment and higher education. In the constitution, OBCs are described as "socially and educationally backward classes", and government is enjoined to ensure their social and educational development.

The central list of OBC castes (state wise) issued by central government is available at www.ncbc.nic.in or www.obcguru.com. However the state list of OBC caste issued by state governments for different states are different. All the castes of state list are not included in central list of OBCs.

Accordingly to the Supreme Court, people with yearly income of more than Rs.2.5 lakh per annum and people with considerable landholding constitute the creamy layer. Children of people holding constitutional positions are also included in creamy layer. This means the children of President, Vice President, and Judges of the SC and HCs fall in this category. Children of members of the UPSC and State Public Service Commission, Chief Election Commissioner, Comptroller and Auditor General of India also fall under the creamy layer among OBCs under the criteria fixed for exclusion from reservation in civil posts and services
