The Ramayana and the Mahabharata are two great Indian epics. The former was written by Maharishi Valmiki sometime between the year 750 B.C. and the year 500 B.C. The Mahabharata, on the other hand, was written by Vyasa between the fifth century B.C. and the fourth century A.D. The Ramayana is believed to pre-date the Mahabharata.

Mahabharat is true. Ramayan is just an imagination. It never came.

By the mythical story line Ramayana comes first, but analysis of language and certain other things it becomes obvious that Mahabharata stories are older and the compilation too is older than Ramayana. Mahabharat was written first.
