The film focused on two friends
Namak Haraam (Devanagari: , Nastaliq: ; translation: traitor), is a 1973 Indian Hindi film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. The music is by R.D. Burman, the screenplay by Gulzar, and lyrics by Anand Bakshi. The film stars Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. It also stars Rekha, Asrani, Raza Murad, A.K. Hangal, Simi Garewal and Om Shivpuri. Rajesh Khanna received his third BFJA Awards for Best Actor (Hindi) in 1974 for this film.
This was the second Hrishikesh film with Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh after Anand. "Diye Jalte Hai, Phool Khilte Hai", "Nadiya se dariya, Dariye se sagar" and "Main Shayar Badnaam" are the most memorable melodies, all rendered powerfully by Kishore Kumar and picturised on Rajesh Khanna.

It was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee as rightly answered by Anthony Fernandes. It was a nice movie about friendship between an industrialist's son and an ordinary young man.
Those days belonged to Rajesh Khanna. He was the first actor to get the super star tag. Amitabh played second fiddle to actors like Anil Dhawan, Navin Nischol, Jitendra etc. earlier. Only with Zanjeer did he make his mark later after giving several flops.
All this hype about Amitabh being the best in Bollywood is rather exaggerated. Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor and Rajendra Kumar to name a few also gave several hits and reigned for several decades in the cinema world. Sanjeev Kumar was a versatile actor but nobody seems to remember him or give him due credit. He is one actor who played the role of an old man in several movies with great aplomb and that too when he was still young. I think it is not proper to raise one to the skies and look down on others. As if their contrib ...more
