More than an ailment in itself, insomnia is a symptom of a disorder that causes lack of sleep. People struck with insomnia experience difficultly either in falling asleep or in remaining asleep. Though it was not a common ailment in the past, with the changing lifestyle and too much of stress, the strike rate of insomnia has increased considerably. In the present times, almost every other individual of the urban upper class society complains of a lack of sleep or inability to have a peaceful sleep. Insomnia is the inability to get the amount of sleep you need to wake up feeling rested and refreshed. Because different people need different amounts of sleep, insomnia is defined by the quality of your sleep and how you feel after sleepingnot the number of hours you sleep or how quickly you doze off. Even if youre spending eight hours a night in bed, if you feel drowsy and fatigued during the day, you may be experiencing insomnia.

Although insomnia is the most common sleep complaint, it is not a single sleep disorder. Its more accurate to think of insomnia as a symptom of another problem. The problem causing the insomnia differs from person to person. It could be something as simple as drinking too much caffeine during the day or a more complex issue like an underlying medical condition or feeling overloaded with responsibilities.

THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF CAUSES..... ONCE I SEARCHED FOR IT IN A MEDICAL SITE...
The gist is either too much thinking or having a painful medical condition.

For me I can sleep quickly if i will put my head just was doing my assignments and opening rediff page ;-)
