What are the duties and responsibilities of an MP in India? This question could not be answered by Election Commission, Law Mistry and ministry of Parliamentry Affairs.
An RTI to this effect was submitted by one Deb Ashish Bhattacharya, and all they said was 'we don't know' ?? Please comment on this....

The problem is that none of the Constitutions of any nation has clearly laid down a statutory table of duties and responsibilities of a MP. Thus they remain a 'Member' of Parliament, compeletely left to themselves what they shoud be doing or not doing, with in the reins exercised by their parent body.

If at all they have any laid down duties or responsibilities, it is what has been laid down by their respective parties if there is a parent body. For the independent MPs, they are totally whimsical and left to themselves to carry on which ever direction they want to go or conduct themselves.

It is a tragedy of any country that, the Law Makers themselves don't have a Law stipulating their duties & responsibilites which can then be taken as a reference guide by the people to question them on their achievements or protecting the interests & welfare of the very people who have elected them.
