Many of my friends have discontinued it because (they say) that it harvests your sensitive and private information from your phone.
But I still use it

The biggest being you can't reach your friends, if they don't get the whatspp installed in their mobiles...I very recently uninstalled it for the same reason...!

I am assuming you know all the advantages then?

The disadvantages really is you need an Internet connection. Blackberry BIS and BES service works well with WhatsApp.

Some people are asking how big must their data bundle be, this is all dependent on your usage of WhatsApp. If you are going to send huge amounts of video or MP3 files to your friends. Then a bigger bundle is required. But for normal text messaging not much is used.

The other disadvantage is your contacts need whatsApp installed much like skype. You can send WhatsApp Messages to friends if they don't have the app installed themselves.
