Hybrid rice produces 30% more than ordinary ones, which has been widely used in the rice fields. The hybrid rice by Yuan and his co-researchers has made the earth produce extra rice equivalent to food for 80 million or more people.

The main diadvantage with hybrid rice is unpredictable environmental condition may affect sterility expression during seed production resulting to seed purity problems.

3.increased resistance to diseases and insects.
demerits
1.seed is expensive
2.farmers can not use their seed from one year to another
3.Unpredictable environmental condition may affect sterility expression during seed production resulting to seed purity problems.

The comparison of profitability of hybrid and inbred varieties
of rice has shown that the former have a distinct yield advantage
over the inbred varieties now being cultivated .
However, higher costs of production due to higher seed cost,
higher level of fertiliser and labour use coupled with lower market
prices have completely offset the yield gain recorded for hybrid
rice. Overall, the profitability of hybrid rice was a little lower
than inbred varieties. This calls for refinement of hybrid rice
technology to reduce cost of cultivation and improving the quality
of rice to create a demand pull suiting the tastes and preferences
of consumers.

3:Multiple cytoplasm sources as female parents

DISADVANTAGES:
1:Unpredictable environmental condition may affect sterility expression during seed production resulting to seed purity problems.

What is Hybrid rice?

Hybrid rice is the commercial rice crop from F1 seeds of cross between two genetically dissimilar parents. Good rice hybrids have potential of yielding 15-20% more than the best inbred variety grown under similar conditions. To exploit the benefits of hybrid rice, farmers have to buy fresh seeds every cropping season

Why Hybrid rice?

We need to go for hybrid rice because yield levels of semi-dwarf varieties of the green revolution era have plateaued. more and more rice to be produced on less land and with less inputs. demand for rice is rapidly increasing with the increase in population, especially in less developed countries. rice hybrids have shown 15-20% higher yield potential than inbred rice varieties under farmers' field conditions. hybrids have shown their ability to perform better under adverse conditions of drought and salinity.
