Very Good question :
There are many reasons but the reason that stands out is the selection procrdure:
Every selection committe is baised and selection happens keeping regions in mind and not on the merits. In playing 16 we don't see the real performes (Those who performed really well in domestic circuit , last year and this year) Such as C.Pujara, S.Raina, R.Sharma, M.Pandey, A.Nair etc etc....

Secondly, we always talk about bench strength ..where is that ? We haven't found rplacement of Saurav Ganguli (Yuvraj is a fluke he may perform in 3 out of 12 matches, inconsistence test player) Rahul Dravid, VVS.Laxman they will retire soon (No players are groomed to takeover) .

Third Reason , We played more cricket with weak teams like New Zealand, Srilanka and Bangladesh and won comfortably , we played with Australia in INDIA , still our batsman are Vulnerable to bouncy and pace attack.

Fourth Reason : Technicality and temprament is yet to be tested while facing Quality bowlers ...more

India lost its key batsmen due to injury, all of a sudden, Dravid, Lakshman, Yuvaraj, Rohit sharma, etc,, and added to that our weakest bowling attack, where neither the seamer or the spinner were able to get wickets

these are the only reason for losing the test
