Q.
I am planning to involve rediff team so that they open an account in the name of Rediff Q&A funds for flood relief and all we remit some amount vide DD or cheque payable at Par immediately . If they provide us the account no we can transfer online also and thereafter one of our senior members will be responsible to deliver the funds at the right place. What is your suggestion?

A good thought indeed. However, Majority would prefer to send it to appropriate channels like the Prime Minister's relief fund and the State Government relief fund directly, which have been constituted for such purposes only. Regards.

Although the proposal is quite noble, not too many people will give a great amount towards it, unless you make the rediff fund registered under the IT and other acts and offer 80G (or is it GG) tax deduction against such contributions. Better get the homework done before venturing into such things very perfectly. I am sure rediff will also be thinking on the same lines. All the best, and expect my contribution if and when it starts.

No doubt, it is an excellent idea and your motive is good. However, such fund collection also entails a great responsibility. We will have to form a body for this purpose. The funds collected will have to be subjected to audit. Lots and many complications are involved.
Let us assume someone collects the funds on behalf of Rediff QnA forum. There had been some bitter experiences in the past when commodities collected did not reach the victims but were either dumped or misused. If someone questions then Rediff might get a bad name and Rediff management might not like it.
My suggestion is that Dakshina Kannada district administration has called upon the district to come forward and contribute towards relief fund for the cause of flood-affected areas. A donation centre has been opened at MG Road to collect funds and commodities to be sent to the affected areas while three more will start functioning at Mangalore City Corporation, Red Cross Centre and Taluka Office. If funds are sen ...more

Sai Ram. A noble idea but difficult to implement given the ground realities. Help can be extended in many other ways apart from giving money.
