There are claims and counter claims on the unique identification card (UID) to be issued by the Government of India. By providing a unique identification number to all the Indian citizens the ''scheme shall ensure that various development deliverables reach the poor and needy in time, shall enable better monitoring and help plug leakages,'' says the Government of India notification. This issue is widely being discussed across the country hence needs to be publicly debated. The U.S. has had a unique social security number assigned to each individual, which is the basis to track the individual for multiple purposes including immigration, credit history, identity etc. Implementing this system in India will be a huge challenge though, given the size of the population. About UID, people have lot of confusion. Therefore, it is utmost important for the Govt to first clear the purpose behind unique identification card. It will obviate the need for multiple documentary proofs and facilitate easy verification. Biometric information like iris and fingerprints ensure uniqueness. The authority uses data de-duplication process, which also makes sure that only unique data is stored. If you try to enrol yourself for the second time by using some different demographic information or data, you cannot do it. That's also because you can't change your iris and fingerprint. So duplica

Does not matter if it is never received. its useless id anyway. consider this, when a taxpayer has many indentity proofs like PAN, Ration cards, Passport, Driving License & Voter cards what is the need for UID? it should be restricted to only those citizens who have neither of these. this will have 2 benefits in the form of lesser workload & lesser expense of public money.
