In its first appearance, the group, born before Independence, was led by Vinayak Savarkar. In this form, it called for an "armed struggle" against the British Indian state. After independence, the group was dissolved by Savarkar stating that its aim has been achieved and it is no more needed.
The group was born again in another form decades after partition. Abhinav Bharat - the Trust was formed in January 2002. Details of the Trust are available on www.abhinavbharat.org. Abhinav Bharat - the Hindu nationalist organization was born in 2007. There is no connection of any kind between the two organizations. Abhinav Bharat - the Trust works for a Plural, Peaceful Just and Humane society. The Hindu nationalist organization is led and presided by Savarkar's granddaughter, Himani Savarkar. She is also related to Nathuram Godse, the man who assassinated M K Gandhi on 30 January 194

Right wing organisations in the city have sought an apology from Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Jitendra Avhad for accusing them of promoting terrorism. Himani Savarkar, the leader of the Hindu Mahasabha and the Abhinav Bharat, said that Avhad had made a bold statement saying that Abhinav Bharat could be one of the organisations involved in the conspiracy behind the German Bakery blast

Abhinav Bharat can refer to two organizations one of which is an Hindu nationalist organisation based mainly in Maharashtra in India. The Hindu nationalist organization gained prominence when its members were arrested for allegedly perpetrating the Malegoan bombing. The other Abhinav Bharat is a Public Charitable Trust which is in no way connected with any act of violence or any illegal activity of any kind.

Founded in the summer of 2006 (on June 12), Abhinav Bharat had been set up as an educational trust with Himani Savarkar daughter of Gopal Godse, brother of Mahatma Gandhis assassin as its President. But, documents filed by Maharashtra prosecutors in the Pune court where Malegaon suspects are being tried, showed that members of the group were soon discussing terrorist activity. In June 2007, Purohit allegedly suggested that the time had come to target Muslims through terrorist attacks a plea others in Abhinav Bharat rejected. But, evidence gathered by the Police suggests, many within the group were determined to press ahead. At a meeting in April 2008, key suspects including Thakur Dwivedi, also known as Amritananda Dev Tirtha, met Purohit to hammer out the Malegaon plot. Explosives were later procured by Purohit, and handed over to Ram Narayan Kalsangram, in early August 2008.

Abhinav Bharat is a Hindu Nationalist organisation that came into being after the formation of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), Jamaat-e-Islami (JEI), Laskar-e- Tayyiba, Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, Jamaat-ud-Dawa and scores of other such organisations in operation in India or based out of India but working here with the help of their counterparts present here (LeT, JuD etc attack on 26/11). Abhinav Bharat is trying to give back to these above mentioned organisations what they think is a befitting reply. All right minded Indians don't support such organisations.
