Yoga is one of the six schools of Hindu philosophy, focusing on meditation as a path to self-knowledge and liberation. The Yoga is explained in Bhagwad Gita, Yoga sutra by Patanjali and Hath Yoga prdapika. Gita refers to Yoga as Yoga of Action, Knowledge and Devotion. Patanjali's yoga is a form of Raja yoga, as it seeks meditation as the path towards the ultimate goal. Hatha Yoga is a development of but also differs substantially from the Raja Yoga of Patanjali, in that it focuses on shatkarma, the purification of the physical as leading to the purification of the mind (ha) and prana, or vital energy. The ultimate goal is the attainment of an eternal state of perfect consciousness, this perfection takes the form of Moksha which is a liberation from all worldly suffering and the cycle of birth and death . There are three ways to reach God, Karma, Prema and Yoga. Yoga not only keeps one free from all the deseases it brings us closer to the God and ultimately lead us to the devine path.

Yoga exercises have a strengthening effect on the nervous system through its non-tiring physiological activities that bring about poise of body and mind. Unlike the normal workouts that concentrate more on the inflation of the muscles, Yoga takes care of every little part of the anatomy. Yoga is much more than "a new-found ability to touch your toes." Asanas have an all-pervading effect on the physical and mental functioning of the body:
Physical - Through healing, strengthening, stretching and relaxing the skeletal, muscular, digestive, cardio-vascular, glandular and nervous systems.
Mental - Through the cultivation of a quite and a peaceful mind, alertness and concentration.
Spritual - By preparing for meditation.

The Yogic way of life includes a code of ethics, regulations, discipline and more, combined with prayer and meditation. Even a discussion of these subjects helps one relieve mental tensions and change attitudes. Simple Asanas help to stretch and relax the whole body and neutralize tensions. The sincere practice of Yoga postures benefits all levels of experience.

From the restoration of balance, flexibility, poise, health and well being to the body, to the cultivation of mental equanimity, emotional balance, and inner strength. On a physical level Yoga postures stimulate the glands, organs, muscles and nerves in ways that traditional exercise cannot.

Muscle tightness and strain is quickly relieved and both circulation and digestion improves. Stress-related symptoms like poor sleep, fatigue, muscle spasms, anxiety, and indigestion are greatly improved.

Through continued practice Yoga postures can have a profound effect on the inner dimensions of life, establishing deep calm, con ...more
