A committee comprising West Bengals Commerce Minister Partha Chatterjee and other opposition party leaders has unanimously proposed that the state of West Bengal be renamed as Paschim Banga.
The decision was taken at an all-party meeting held here on Friday.
The initiative to rename the state has been taken keeping the need to gain administrative advantages.
Due to the states name beginning with the alphabet W (West Bengal), its name slipped to the bottom at all-India conferences, seminars and meetings. The letter W-the 23rd letter in the English alphabet-makes the states representatives the last speakers in Parliament sessions, seminars and conferences.

A move by the newly elected government of West Bengal to abandon the Indian state's English name in preference for the vernacular Paschimbanga has triggered an outcry against Bengali populism.
The decision was made at the end of last week after an all-party meeting called by Mamata Banerjee, the new chief minister and leader of the Trinamool Congress.

No new name right now. Only a proposal is raised to rename " West Bengal " as " Paschim Banga " !! It is yet to be passed in the State Assembly and thereafter from Central Govt. , Parliament etc. etc. So the matter is yet to be approved.
