Royal Prince Ulugh Beigh was the prince of Samarkhand and much of the parts of present Uzbekistan. He was a very learned mathematician and an astronomer with an apparant interest in Astrology. He established a famous and an enormous observatory at Samarkhand in 1433 which probably inspired many princes around Asia to take interest in celestial subjects and mathematics.
