"More the knowledge, lesser the ego....lesser the knowledge, more the ego.."...a famous sentence pronounced by the great. A truly knowledgeable and intelligent person would be humble by nature, he doesn't make a show-off of his depth. Only a person with half knowledge and shallow thoughts will make a parade of his hollowness.....

Ego, as "self - esteem" by which I mean somebody's idea of his or her own importance or worth, usually of an appropriate level, even when slightly more or "too much" can't kill brilliance.

But Ego as inflated opinion of self or an exaggerated sense of self-importance and a feeling of superiority to other people by itself is so dangerously harmful to senses that there could be no brilliance there at all.
Too much ego as you call it according to Sigmund Freud is simply Freudian conscience which according to Freudian theory, the part of the mind that acts as a conscience to the ego, developing moral standards and rules through contact with parents and society. Nothing to do with brilliance.

Ego,in Freudian psychology, one of three main divisions of the mind, containing consciousness and memory and involved with control, planning, and conforming to reality. I don't know what it will do when it becomes too much.

Personally, I have no brilliance, so there is nothing to kill.

Yes it does. it is said that VIDYA VINAYEN SHOBHATE in sanskut. meaning: whatever good qualities one has are only worth if he is humble. having EGO for one's brilliance, beauty or any other plus points he/she has definitely kills all the good qualities the person has.

Not only kills the brilliance, but also make way for dulls to take a top position in the ranking by pushing down the brilliant. it is almost like ATP ranking!
