He did not use his surname Srivastava as he did not want to 'show' his caste/community. Diminutive by strong willed person remembered for being honest, simple yet of 'never say die' attitude. He raised the slogan 'Jai Jawan - Jai Kisan.
Let us also remember Mahatma Gandhi and K, Kamaraj whose birthdays coincide with the Bahadur.

See the various scams of our present day Politicians and the selfless services rendered by Lal Bahadur Shastri. It is said that he bought a car for his family on installment basis, and when he died his children paid those installments. Think of that man and we are compelled to say 'Shame on Corrupt Indian Politicians of today'.

Lal Bahadur Shastri was an honest man and a sensitive politicians with a conscience that was alive and ticking.
But, my dear friend he was NOT a simpleton!!
Please check up the meaning of this word.
Perhaps it was a typo mistake and actually you wanted to say that Shastri ji was a simple person.

For thousand and thousands of years, nobody cared about the Harijans ill-treated at the temple premises. Gandhiji fought against the foreign whites for freedom of our nation and against the Indian-whites for the freedom of downtrodden people as well. His Satyagraha against British fetched us freedom whereas His movement of Harijan-entry into their own religion temples earned him three bullets from a Brahmin. May be Shastri a good person, but he cannot be compared with the greatness of Gandhiji.
