For self defence you can keep a gun with proper permit from the local authorities (SDPO/SDO), and the permit has to be renewed every year. You also have to substantiate the real necessity of the gun.

If the license issuing authority is convinced that your life is in danger and you need it for self defence, you will be issued with a licemnse by the Dustrict Collector
