Q.

Today, in the departmental meeting meeting, my boss fired me for some work which was supposed to be done by a supporting department (but not done). Is that fair?

It is not fair but take it in stride. What else can you do! Sometimes, bosses behave funny.

Sometimes people talk without thinking. They themselves cannot do it but expect others to do everything. Such people are like barking dogs.

Some bosses are clueless about who is supposed to work and whose responsibility it was. You should stopped him right away and told him respectfully that I will look upon why they did not do their job on time.
That would have clearly sent him msg that it was not your fault. It's not too late, you can tell him now.
