Q.

To say the least, almost all government action has come to a halt. Mostly it is the UPA governments own allies making the situation difficult. None of the big initiatives taken by the UPA government have managed to sneak out into reality, not the Lokpal, not the NCTC, not even a routine hike in rail fares. Comments pls.

A simple logic is that coalitions by their very nature require a willingness to accommodate the other side even when there is disagreement about some issues. On the other side, the government didnt bother to take into confidence their own ally and opposition on critical issues. Result, a stubborn refusal of the opposition parties to almost all governments proposals! Also, total lack of interest can be seen within parliamentarians when any important issue is to be discussed in the parliament. Whenever there is a significant disagreement between the benches, the most favourite mode of communication is noise and high-pitched argument. It is not an occasional accident.. The Opposition as the name suggests is meant to oppose. It can be understood when the weak, helpless and exploited use these means of protest. But for the elected representatives, it is bizarre.
