The main problem here is that we get identified with the mind when we fall prey to ceaseless thinking!
To quieten the mind, we have to DISENGAGE the mind willfully. That is what meditation is. There are many methods in practice for that. Witnessing the thoughts, watching the breath, remaining in HERE and NOW etc.... are some of the techniques. One has to choose according to ones temperament.
