From the 1948 Olympics through to the Sydney Games, India has had only five finalists in individual athletics events. Right from Henry Rebello in 1948, to Milkha Singh 1960, Gurbachan Singh Randhawa in 1964, Sriram Singh in 1976 and P.T Usha in 1984. Even the 1974 Asian Games saw a very good performance by Indian athletes and won 15 Medals including 4 Gold. These were the only Gold`s won by the Indian Contingent in the Asian Games at Tehran (1974) T.C. Yohanan became the first Indian to Jump over 8.00 meter barrier in this Asian Games. Apart from all these athletes, there are many others, who have etched their names in Indian history for their contribution in these sports. Many recent athletes have also been the centre of attraction for their immense contribution and their achievements at the international levels.
