Make sure it is a controllable and controlled surrounding, i.e., the fire should not spread aggressively outside of the fireplace, and if it does, it can be controlled before it causes significant damage.
To ensure this, design some kind of non-combustible boundary arounf your fireplace, and have fire extinguisher, etc.
