Though i have airconditioer , i had been given a table fan
i have ready made juices available - but still given a mixer
i have readymade flour - but still given a grinder.
many houseolds are so small , they dont have place to keep these items given by government.is this the right way to spend public money on products or things that are not so useful ? last 2 years back i was given a 14 inches colour television by dmk government !
Now coming to the serious part of your question. The mammoth expenditure on these freebies, come under "populist " schemes, where the exchequer is taxed , but nothing is given in return. A colossal waste of public money on non-productive ventures.
And what is the impact of the expenditure incurred on these free gifts announced with a view to cornering votes? The funds for developmental activities of the state get diverted to purchase these goodies, to make the voters happy. That means lesser outlay on infrastructure, health care, education and the like. The state is the ultimate loser..
