Hmmm,a interesting question of the millenia,
it should be mentioned here that the discovery of the ruins of the city of Dwaraka by the renowned archaeologist Dr. S. R. Rao, under the Arabian Sea, provides another strong evidence that Lord Krishna and the story of Mahabharata were a reality and not simply poets fancy.
it is not just possible to be much poetic and explain the world what had happen.may be the translations of such works in slavic languages adds to the credits to the mother language..
of course, the making,,the most fantasy-full ramayan and mahabarat were not merely words, beyond which mystery, which i m always awed and love to believe and just purely myth.well, lets not argue before this goes into any other deeper consequences and question.

See --------- you are asking about ramayana and mahabharatha ----
shall i ask you one thing ? as human beings have we seen the '' god '' ? but we do believe in that supreme power and worship in many different ways --------

thats it . its all a belief . our ancestors believed in it . so , we do are under the impression that ramayana and mahabharatha do exist------------

Yes we have a few communities who claim that Krishna was their ancestor, the same with Ramayan. Also satellites have found the famous ram setu and even the Dwarka city.
