True is it in respect of human beings because human beings do not live only instinctively. They have to have a purpose in their life and follow a path to achieve it determinately/
What a purpose should be depends upon the education, environment and the company of the person. If a person gest conducive conditions, will be privileged to hold high purposes to attain. A less educated or without company of good people will have a purpose that his mind would be able to think; may be for the satisfaction of his worldly needs and senses, money or power, ownership of wealth etc.
