Dulla Ram

At the same time that Captain Samuel heard the voice, Dulla Ram was at his wit's end. His wife had been sick for weeks, and despite spending all their resources on doctors, she only grew worse. That evening, Dulla and his two sons and three daughters gathered around the bedside of their wife and mother. What more could the gods require of them? they wondered. What puja (ritual or sacrifice) must they perform to gain her healing? Were the gods even listening?

Several days later Captain Samuel entered the village. The village folk were shocked that such a well-dressed man should come to their village from so far. His presence raised suspicions. What did he want?
