Today the term Religion is defined differently whereas it originated to tell the Eternal Truth of the Nature or "Shaswat Satya". There can never be demise of truth or eternal truth and by that definition religion will survive. But if we consider things like god and worship and rituals etc. as religion then perhaps some might agree with you.

Gautama Buddha was the first to preach spirituality and he never spoke of god. The spirit of Buddhism is to understand the truth or Nature's Course and align self with that. But see what happened to Buddhism at its place of origin.

Religion n spirituality are almost synonymous in the sense that both seek a route to God, communion with Him for ultimate salvation --- religion through a set of rules n conduct and spirituality through renunciation of the mundane world. With the passage of time when man would realize the futility of religions that separates man from man leading only to war n bloodshed instead of peace and love , there would emerge the universal religion of Humanity which would take into its fold the entire humanity and unite all citizens of the world with a deep bonding of love and brotherhood.........

Every time someone was born to abolish the religion resulted in new religion. It will go on continuing. The reason is, after all the religion in simple terms is just a way of life and as long as life is there, the religion too will go with it. Only itz way changes with time.
The best one can expect is, the spirituality too continue itz existence with time.

Yes, religion is on its last legs.
Those religions that are more RIGID in structure will FALL FIRST, others may evolve to some extend and hold on for some more period, but ultimately they have to fall too. All MAN MADE structures have only a stipulated LIFE. That is a NATURAL LAW. Human psyche and spiritual awakening has been accelerated in the recent decades. The fall of conventional religion has become a need.
An universal NEW AGE spirituality is now evolving. Such a spirituality will incorporate of all good aspects of the East and West, and it will be individual oriented and not mass oriented. It will be one of freedom and love than of restrictions, fear and punishment.
