The Kingdom of Bhutan is known in the local language as Druk Yul, which means 'the land of the thunder dragon'. Bhutan is also kn own as Lho Mon (the southern land of darkness), Lho Tsendenjong (the southern land of the Tsenden cypress) and Lhomen Khazhi (the southern land of four approaches).
