Rowan Sebastian Atkinson (born 6 January 1955) is a British comedian, actor and writer, famous for his work on sitcoms such as Blackadder, The Thin Blue Line, Mr. Bean and his voiceover work in Walt Disney's The Lion King . He has been listed in The Observer as one of the 50 funniest acts in British comedy and amongst the top 50 comedy acts ever in a 2005 poll of fellow comedians.[

Atkinson was born in the north of England in 1955. He went to very good schools and graduated with a Bachelors degree in electrical engineering. While studying for a Masters degree at Oxford University he fell in love with acting and comedy and joined an amateur theatre company. He took his comedy sketches to the Edinburgh Festival in 1976 and performed on the street

While studying at Oxford, Rowan joined the Oxford University Dramatic Society and the Experimental Theatre Club, where he caught the comedy bug in a big way. Rather than pursue a career in his chosen field after graduation, Rowan began to tour in a comedy duo with his friend Angus Deayton. Their act was eventually filmed for TV, and soon the two were famous in their home country. He was offered his own TV show, but turned it down in order to do the sketch show, Not the Nine O'Clock News.
