Q.

The script writer and the director are the main technicians responsible for the success of a film, say 90%. Music and stars constitute about 5% and others the rest 5%. Everyone knows this. Then why such star mania all over the world?can anyone explain?

This calculation is not correct dear Josna...at least not in the case of Indian movies.
Accepted that without a novel script and a director with the creativity to visualise and implement...no movie can be successful-IN THE LONG RUN...but the initial draw is because of the stars enacting lead roles.
Without them the movie would not be made at all...who would finance the movie wothout big names / stars ?
Can you imagine a ruckus (of the degree which has been created) like for the movie My name is Khan-without Shah rukh as the Hero !!
Can you imagine the financiers pouring in crores to make a movie without RajniKant.
This is the basic reason that stars are pampered... or as you term it ' Star mania'....the initial draw is because of them-and the initial draw is what attracts Distributors--or the movie would wouldnt be seeing the light of the day- and remain canned till eternity.

I do agree with that Director is a Captain of the Ship !! Star is a most imprortant in the Film...as on whoes face value Film can be sold to the distributors !! : )) If Director is Very Good and Actor is dull then on the basis of Good Script and Director film does not run !! : )) It is the Star who makes film Hit !! Can you imagine Amol Palkar & Zarina Wahab in place of Shahrukh Khan & Kajol in DDLJ ?...it is Shahrukh & Kojol who makes film hit !! : ))

Many reasons can be attribute for this star-maina, Ms. Josna and let me elaborate : Leaving the whole world apart, people in the southern part of India, especially in Tamil Nadu and in Andra Pradesh are going crazy in their attitude towards cinema and politics. Hero worship of matinee idols and the corrupt politicians are constantly on the rise ever since the days of Mr.M.G. Ramachandran who did capitalize his cinema popularity to become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. It is highly shameful that the crowd which includes the educated & illiterate alike indulge in activities where one cannot imagine the proportions. It is here,a temple was erected to to show the loyalty to an actress. The same type of trend is being followed by almost all of the politicians by projeecting themselves as the mass leaders with the help of mass hired by the hench men and hooligans. The educated youth should realise and understand that the image created by the cinema and political clout are the out come of ...more

See Now a days scripts are based on the so called formula created and approved by Heros.
This they are doing becoz of previous success movies.
BOX OFFICE HIT is the commercial name for this.If Hero is failing in any challlenges in the movie( Story) Movie is flop.
Our Heros are the persons, who knows only to win, who can fight with many villains and fighting artists. etc etc Hero Image.
This is happening for decades.
Nobody wants to break this.
Only very few like Kamal hasan Big B are taking some risk
