Ferdinand Verbiest, as a member of a Jesuit mission in China, may have been the first to build a 'car' around 1672.
Nicolas Joseph Cugnot of France is believed to have built the first self-propelled mechanical vehicle. This claim is disputed by some sources.

Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler produced the wolrds first car in 1886 but their first production car was in 1894, when they introduced the Motor Velocipede. However the first affordable car for the people was a Model T Ford made in 1908 by Henry Ford who started the Ford Motor Company.
