Severity of punishment is NOT the real issue, it is only one of the issues!
What is required is a victim-friendly investigation and trial system, with quick delivery of justice.
Politicians wud do well to keep off from helping the influential criminals, rather than sermonizing about women welfare!

Castration is not a punishment at all. Doing any thing against the will of other is an offence. When that is rape, it is not only doing against the will of the other, it is almost killing a person in not making her face the society after the act of rape. Offender has no right to live after almost killing the victim and it is almost like committing a murder. But, legislators who have to take a view on the safety of women, have to take into account the consequences of making law based on suggestions. In this particular case what I referred to, if implemented to be death sence, the perpetrators of such crime are likely to kill the victims since they already know that they are going to get death penalty and by killing the victim, they can make the case more difficult in not getting the evidence of victim by killing them.
