That's the problem with social networking sites, a stupid comment may end up being very costly, intentional or unintentional becomes a secondary issue. Take the example of a stupid posting in US by a boy of Indian origin of his roommates gay pictures recording due to which his roommate felt so ashamed that he committed suicide. It ended up ruining the lives and tragic consequences for both the families, especially the black boy's parents for whom the loss was irreparable and irreconcilable. If social networking sites have their positives that they are good mediums of communication, the flip side is that by devoting more time to such artificial devices we are going away from natural connectivity in real. A couple of days ago I read in the TOI that the Australian Psychiatrist Association has got a disease called 'Net Addict' which has adverse affects on children who use more and more game devices and net. It is certainly not in good taste as such statements, whether intentional or unintentional, will have far reaching consequences. He ought to have been more careful, whatever the explanation he can offer now.
