Long term relationships ? are you referring to live-in realtionships ?
I believe that any responsible relationship which could last long enough is akin to marriage ...earlier without legal acceptance and now accepted legally too.
Its all about responsible behaviour my friend and I will not dispute the knowledgable judgement....what matters is taking responsibility for the outcome...whatever..and behaving responsibly.
Society will scorn and has a tendency to scorn anything out side an arranged marriage...but individuals who have the courage to live life according to their beliefs and reamin resposible citizens...are the ones who get my salute !
The key word as you must have noticed in my answer is responsible behaviour...and I lay stress on this always.

Is it applicable to WHOM ---of which religion ..---- because here we have some marriage- laws according to religions and this law is applicable to soft people only . of some particular religion . hence it is unfair and will work like social engineering ..
