This is translation of Premchand's classic novel set in pre-independence India. It deals with, among other things, the exploitation of poor, illiteratepeasants at the hands of rich landlord. Apart form being a powerful work offiction, Godan is a moving social document that is as relevant today aswhen first written. This lucid translation is abridged and annotated in order tomake it more accessible and appealing to students at BA level.
