Francis Crick, James D. Watson and Maurice Wilkins won a Nobel prize for the discovery of the helical structure of the DNA.
Rosalind Franklin, a colleague of Wilkins, was the x-ray crystallographer whose imagination failed to convert her data into a viable model for the DNA molecule.
Crick and Watson used her reported data to create the first correct model of the DNA molecule.
