We have to see RAM either as a man or as God, dont mix up! I prefer to see him as a man!
Ram was simply being a normal husband compelled to yield to the wishes of his wife!

In the aranya kanda of the sri ramayana , sri rama visits the hermitage of lord agastya. lord agastya talks to sri rama and sitamma in a sort of parables. initially he invites them to spend the rest of their vanavasa of 1 year with him as there is no fear from any demonic forces. but then he changes his mind and instructs them to stay in panchavati. then he instructs sri rama to take a good care of sitamma and obey whatever she seeks. in the sanathana dharma - the neethi saastra instructs not to interfere in a man and his wife's affair, (walking between a husband and wife itself is considered unethical). then why did a great sage like agastya instruct sri rama in this fashion answers your question. no wonder sri rama armed himself to teeth to hunt a deer.

This was as per Divine plan.
Sita is none other the Mahamaya, the all powerful Divine power who pushes the evil person into delusion and cause their down fall.
All this leela (Divine drama) was done to encourage Ravan to commit the evil deed of kidnapping Her
