Alleviate the pain until help comes by talking comforting words of encouragement or if no possibility also keep holding their hands and praying to god to mitigate their pain

Very true , when we see pain of our own dear ones, we can just pray fro them, sit beside them, speak to them, make them forget their pains, by our gesture, words, music,I know what I am doing now adays for my friend, how is in a critical condition, GOD BLESS HER

It is very frustating and painful but one can be there and give moral support, sooth them with your words, take out time to speak to them and be around just in case they need someone to talk to. Sometimes, silent support is appreciated much more
