Samajwadi Party is not a ideology based party like most of the parties in India. They have so many 180 degree turns in the past or also likley to take in the future that people do not pin much hope for consistency on them. The Kalyan Singh factor is not going to add any extra dimension to them. It is perhaps, in fitness of things, keeping with the tradition of the individual and the party in question, that they are joining hands. Ms. Mayawati is the ultiamate factor in Uttar Pradesh for coming few years, the state politics will revolve around her. Who will gain and who will lose will depend on her, and Kalyan Singh is too insignificant compared to her at least at present.

Congress may derive some advantage indirectly in the upcoming Lok Sabha Election only owing to this merger of Kalyan and Mulayam.
