Movies are not real reflection of the society. It is exaggeration of what is going on in the society because it is a dramatized version and to attract viewership, they will exaggerate things to a lot of extent.

Indian movies sell dream and reality at the same time. That's why they call it parallel cinema. Whatever it is, in case of main-stream movies .ie. entertainments, the director says the final thing. If that final thing does appear as morally degrading and the film becomes hit with audience, it becomes an indication of a rotting society. Whereas in the more serious cinema, the detailed work or the treatment all along converse with you indicating the directors mind. If you agree with what you see, it is realistic irrespective of it being and indication of rotting society.
But I fully agree with the statement ......................movies are reflection of the society. ( just shed off the cinematic excesses)

Most of the movies today do not even reflect the true picture of India. Many movies are either remake of foreign movies or portray some high society of NRIs or ideal metropolitian life.

In a way yes because in a democracy you get what you deserve. But hope is not dead because there are some good movies also being made which are not only successful with their limited budgets but also gives a true picture of the society in general. Masses are just resorting to escapism from the reality.
