Somebody said on TV Channel that Mahabharat has not happened. It is only imaginary? What is your opinion about this?

Faith of every religions has its roots to certain things that happened in history.
For example Indian prayers like Vishnu Shastranaam, Worship of Khatu Shyamji (in Rajasthan) and Geeta itself are directly connected to Mahabharata
If Mahabharata did not happen then where did all these above mentioned things come from?

If this this did not happen then any religion thing did not happen ,why to believe others and not our own? koi kuch bhi kah de maan lo?
