Every employer has a notion for their CS that he is working for Govt not for the organisation . he contibutes nothing towards the profitabilty of the organisation. In fact in our company I have seen the CS and his position .during the GM /AGM/Board meeting only management thinks he has work therefater he is free always . if appointing a CS is not mendatory for a Ltd company , every employer will avoid it as minimum 7.5 lacs/year the compensation as per industry norms .

Enlightenment after four years? There are good company secretaries and good lawyers. And bad too. If you have it in you, you can be in a better position in any company.

Complete you law and pursue CS course of study also. If you do not want to practice, you need not get yourself registered with the Bar Council...Still you can be a legal adviser to many companies besides being the company secretary...!

A Company Secretary is limited to a single company and is a salaried person. Whereas a Corporate Lawyer is a self employed and lends services to various companies. Corporate Lawyer is a much higher position.
