The literacy rate of our country is not too good n ppl r not aware of many things. for such ignorant ppl i personally feel it is not wrong to legalise abortion upto 24 weeks provided that it shud have valid medical reasons. Although its to risky to abort 24 week foetus.

At 24 weeks, the fetus weighs more than 1.3 pounds/ 600 grams. it still has little body fat and skin is thin and fragile, but is well-proportioned. the brain is growing rapidly, and it starts to fill the space in uterus. From crown to it could measure 11.8 inches / 30 centimetres. Its almost a full life, and aborting it would be, in my view, killing an innocent unborn life. Unless and untill medical reasons of baby's health, it should never be made legal to abort a 24-week gestation baby.

Why it should be? There are ways and means to detect the pregnancy much before that and any accident can surely find a cure in that time... Though abortion of any kind at any time is morally wrong, the lack of knowledge in this regards makes it a tool for saving ones skin which they term as accidentally happened...

We are slaughtering sheeps and buffalos to appease our taste buds then whats wrong in allowing termination of pregnency upto 24 weeks if their is problem with the foetus. Abortion should be made legal upto 24 weeks strictly under medical conditions else the ratio of girls to boys will become adverse.

First consideration should be whether it is medically safe. If safe then there is nothing wrong in extending the period from present 20 weeks to 24 weeks. For a normal unwanted pregnancy 20 weeks period is good enough to take a decision. But when abortion is resorted in order to safe guard the child from being born with an incurable birth defect and leading a vegetable life, than as much time as it is medically safe should be allowed. Because in such cases it may be possible to notice the defect only in say around 20th week or so. In these cases it is very difficult for parents to take a decision. They will need time to view the pro and cons before coming to a decision. So extending the period to 24 weeks is quite rational provided it is medically Ok.
