Sherlock breaks into a crime scene. The victim is the owner who is slumped dead on a chair and have a bullet hole in his head. A gun lies on the floor and a cassette recorder is found on the table. On pressing the play button, Sherlock hears the message 'I have committed sins in my life and now I offer my soul to the great lord....following a gunshot.

Sherlock smiles Of-course its a murder.

Why did he think so?

As .we can see that it is already mention that .....sherlock holmes have 'ON the cassette recorder'...
'Then who have off the recorder after the gun shot'
it simply mean that murder have first done a fake confession of the man ....and then murder him and off the recoder..to show that it is a sucide.

The man was murdered because if after he made that confession and shot himself, the tape would still have been rolling(that is recording) but, when Sherlock pressed play, the tape started from the beginning of the confession, meaning someone rewinded it. If it wasnt touched then when holmes pressed play, he would have heard nothing at all until he rewinds the tape himself, but it started from the beginning meaning someone else took it backward in this case the murderer.
