No you don't have to be in love with someone - many people are living life quite well without being in love with someone. If you meet someone and fall in love then it's a bonus. I am sure those who are not "in love" with someone still have family and friends and other things that they love and which fulfil their lives.

Love, according to me is not a need but necessity. I think I need something to care about before I can care for myself. Whether that's my career (which is sustaining me at the moment, but not a permanent thing), my family (which is keeping me moving apart besides my career), a goal, the life itself or may be that someone very special as said by you. Some people really can survive on just love; such a free existence would be nice but not necessary the best possible life. For me, I just want to find the best in me, not the best in someone else.I'm not afraid of confessing that I'm happy to live in my own world loving all those things which I have on my side.
As for loving someone, I don't see any possibility! For others, I can conclude only two reasons... either to find a purpose in their life or to define themselves. Both cases have Zero value in my life because I'm already defined my my love for self is like a tangled string, knotted and unfathomable to others.

Yes. We must love someone. Mainly because of mental satisfaction that we are not cornered in this world.

It is unfortunately not a spontaneous decision. Society expects you to fall in love with a view to getting married an accepted norm. When you plant that expectation in your system you work towards it and it just happens. Love happens.
