The "vicious cycle" of Indian mindset :( "I Want to be TATA sahib NOW" s a dream which many Indians have. So in that mindset we tend to invest our in s and alls in stuff which has established NATIONAL infra here.
The British introduced cricket to India, and popularized it here FROM THE GROUND UP. U would have first British colonial divisions playing cricket against locals.....who would be employed as sepys admin clerk of a British colonial Co., etc...they didn't do the same for hockey, our Kings did that 4 us.
The British also popularzed the cricket by writing about it in sports mags, media etc in India, encouraging school boys to get in it to challenge "England's best!" etc...
After 1947 the onus was on the Govt to at least do grassroots popularization of Hockey.....and well, in "liberalized" India, it could have been on corporate world. Despite the SPECTACULAR hockey wr have here, we never really popularized it grass roots like the Einglish did w/ cricket.
So we just ...more
