That is not the solution. More and More people should be encouraged to use Public transport and car pools or shared taxis. In Mumbai, more than 62% of routine daily travellers use local trains as a mode of transport; which is phenomenal and many metros in the world give anything to even reach half of the percentage. There would very less commuters using other public transports like buses; shared taxis and car pools. Still there are huge traffic jams, may be due to the huge population but ths riads are not broad, at very few places there is one way roads, not many places for parking so at times half of the road is occupied by parked vehicles, very narrow lanes and at some places on the road illegal hawkers occupy the space. The number of vehicles is not much; but it is not the proper planning involved in the making of roads and their maintenance, not proper implementation of rules by the traffic police to remove illegaly parked vehicles; very few parking places and the illegal hawkers ...more
